Muscular Sytem
Chicken Wing DissectionThe chicken wing is similar to our upper and lower arm. When you tug the bicep the chicken wing flexes and when you tug the triceps the chicken wing extends. This means that the bicep is a flexor and the triceps is an extensor.(see figure1) These muscles are the same as in humans and just like in a human when you tug on these muscles the tip of the wing bends and straightens.
The muscles are connected to the bone by tissue called tendons, they are thin, white and soft. The tissue the connects the bones at the joints is called a ligament. In the chicken wing the joint in-between the lower and upper part of the wing is a hinge joint and the joint that connects the wing to the shoulder of the chicken is a ball and socket joint. In between all joints there is tissue called cartilage that is hard, white and slippery to stop friction between he bones and make movement easier. The bones in the chicken are called the humorous, the radius and the ulna (see figure2). |
